Celebrating the Power of Black Literacy & Liberation
Lit Fest is a vibrant, multidisciplinary Black History Month event that reimagines literacy as more than words on a page.
Through immersive workshops, performances, and conversations, Lit Fest explores literacy as a pathway to self-expression, wellness, financial empowerment, digital fluency, and cultural preservation.
The day invites families, educators, artists, and young people to connect, learn, and celebrate in community β honoring the legacy of Black storytelling and the power of lifelong learning.
Why Literacy?
Literacy extends beyond reading and writing β itβs the foundation for access, empowerment, and equity.
In our community, advancing literacy means:
- Strengthening academic and digital skills
- Expanding financial understanding and personal well-being
- Nurturing creative and cultural expression
- Empowering generational knowledge and storytelling
By broadening how we define literacy, we help youth see that learning happens everywhere β and that their voices, stories, and skills all matter.
